The Earth:
Earth has constantly been changing throughout history and going through warming periods and cooling periods. Some believe that this global warming that we have been experiencing is due to the natural changes of Earth. That is not impossible, but it’s highly unlikely that Earth could warm up so fast. 95% or more of global warming is thought to be from humans.
Research:
Over many years, Earth orbiting satellites have collected data about our world. The data shows a change in our climate. We can also find evidence of climate change in layers of rocks, reefs, tree rings, and ocean sediment. This ancient evidence has shown that the climate is warming about 10 times faster than ice age recovery warming. Ice age recovery warming is how the Earth has been gradually warming since the last ice age.
Causes:
Greenhouse gases are gases in the atmosphere such as, carbon dioxide, ozone, water vapor, and some others. They catch sunlight and prevent it from leaving the atmosphere, just like glass catches sunlight in a greenhouse to keep the inside warm. These gases have been increased in the atmosphere, causing Earth to warm. Human emissions and the burning of forests has contributed significantly to global warming.
The Effects:
In the past 40 years, most of Earth’s warming has occurred. This can cause many problems to the environment. The ocean is even warming, and the ice sheets are shrinking. As sad as it is, our creatures here on Earth might not be able to survive if we keep it up.
Life on Earth as we know it will change. Global warming is thought to cause extreme weather changes such as, temperature increase, low temperature events decrease, and increased intense rainfall events.
Progress:
We have made some progress in helping Earth. The Ozone Hole was caused from interactions from Chlorine (CFCs) and Ozone. CFCs were banned by the Montreal Protocall in 1987. Ozone depletion has decreased. This is improvement from the Montreal Protocall. By working together, we made a positive change for our mother Earth and now we must keep going in order to put an end to rapid global warming.
Closing:
The Earth has increased temperature and it may seem difficult to fix it, but it’s not impossible. Exploring other lifestyles can make a difference to our Earth if we all do our part.
Our Situation:
Earth has been rapidly warming. We have been making new technology that makes our live better and easier, but it has some serious side-effects.
The Earth’s Condition -
About 95% or more of Earth’s warming is from humans. Data from satellites has shown that Earth is warming faster than it should be.
The Result:
Ice sheets are shrinking, average temperatures are going up, increased intense rainfall events, and the ocean Is getting warmer. These changes are having serious effects on the world around us.
Prevention:
There are many things we can do to save our planet and everything on it. This list of five changes in your lifestyle could help make a difference in the rapid warming of Earth.
1. Stop chewing gum
Gum is a tasty treat, but many don’t know that it is bad for the environment. Gum is made up of synthetic rubber, which is plastic.
2. Reuse
Reuse any chance you get.
Store food in reusable plastic containers. They store food well and are easy to wash and reuse.
Buy reusable straws. It saves money and they are easy to purchase.
Invest in reusable produce bags. They are easier to carry and they help the environment.
Pack lunch in a reusable bag with reusable containers.
3. Bring your own
Bringing your own products to places like restaurants can help you help Earth.
Try bringing your own boxes or cups when ordering out, especially if you do it often.
4. Avoid plastic products
Plastic takes a long time to decompose. If you need to buy something, try looking for something in a cardboard or decomposable container.
Don’t use plasticware at home. Ask that restaurants do not put plasticware in your take-out box.
Use matches instead of plastic lighters. They are easier to decompose.
5. Go Natural
Going Natural has many benefits like a healthier lifestyle. It is also good for the Earth.
Make Fresh Squeezed juice instead of buying some in plastic bottles.
Stop buying frozen food. Most frozen food boxes have plastic in or on them. It’s also a much healthier lifestyle to make your own food.
Try to make your own cleaning products instead of using store bought ones. They are in plastic and made with toxic chemicals.
